Laureate is a malting barley variety with exceptional yield potential. However, Laureate can also be grown as feed barley, the only difference is in the fertilization technology. For malting barley, there is a recommended technology for applying nitrogen fertilizer because it is known that nitrogen affects the protein content in the grain, with the aim of keeping the protein at an optimal value for malt production. However, in the production of feed barley, standard fertilization technology is applied.
Thus, we recommend Laureate for growing as feed barley and as such it can be used in livestock nutrition. Laureate is particularly important because the optimal time for sowing is from the end of October to the beginning of February. The pre-crop, such as sugar beet, has a minimal impact on the yield, unlike some other crops where a significant drop in yield can occur when grown in a crop rotation after beet. In intensive production, where Laureate is produced as feed barley, we recommend the use of growth regulators.
